"Your location information is personal. We are committed to keeping it safe, private, and under your control." Please note: Google Maps does not sell your data to third parties, including advertisers. "With the help of Maps, you can spend less time worrying about your data and more time exploring new places, getting where you want to go, and playing with friends," said Marlo McGriff, director of product for Google Maps. "I can spend more time doing things," he wrote on his blog. post.
Google Maps will now save your timeline on your device.
Maps' timeline feature helps you remember where you've been, and is supported by a setting called Location History. If you're among the users who choose to turn on Location History (it's off by default), your timeline will soon be saved directly to your device, giving you even more control over your data. As before, you can delete all or part of your information. You can turn off the settings at any time, or turn them off completely.
If you bought a new phone or are worried about losing your existing phone, you can always back up your data to the cloud to avoid losing it. Secure data is automatically encrypted so no one, including Google, can read it.
When you first enable Location History, the automatic deletion control is set to 3 months by default, and data older than that is automatically deleted. Previously, this option was set to 18 months. If you want to keep reminders on your timeline for a long time, don't worry. You can extend the period or turn off automatic deletion controls completely at any time.
